Mission

RIRC’s mission is to serve the technical, legal, employment,

English needs of the NYC immigrant and refugee community.

RIRC empowers immigrants and refugees to overcome access, cultural, language, and other barriers to successfully acculturate and acclimate to their new home.

The three general outcomes of the RIRC program are:

  • Participants receiving INS letters for exams and interview appointments
  • Gain lawful legal resident status
  • Secure needed benefits and services

Additionally RIRC provides services to customers who are unable to effectively utilize re-settlement and acculturation services that are available elsewhere since many of these services are not equipped to assist in terms of bilingual and bicultural capabilities – the immigrant community.

RIRC engages in extensive outreach to identify the immigrant who may be vulnerable or at risk in order to provide them with a safety net. The RIRC assists customers with a range of problems that include:

  • Alcohol and substance abuse due to family stress
  • Divorce
  • Domestic violence
  • Elder neglect
  • Adjustment difficulty
  • Hidden homelessness and overcrowded living conditions due to the lack of adequate income and affordable housing
  • Unemployment and underemployment – due to lack of marketable skills
  • Inability to succeed due to lack of English language proficiency

Emphasis is placed on English proficiency combined with work readiness.

Many immigrants and refugees fail to avail themselves of assistance or apply for services or entitlements for fear of jeopardizing their immigration status or future eligibility for citizenship. RIRC has developed a systematic and engaging approach to addressing immigrants’ social, psychological, economic, housing, educational and legal service needs.

The central goal of RIRC is to encourage and assist all eligible non-citizens who have begun or want to begin their naturalization application with INS and to promote citizenship to broadest spectrum of ethnic communities, provide legal assistance, employment assistance, and counseling.
